What Is Barrel Optimization for Alloy Bats?

Our Barrel Optimization Service was developed specifically for new alloy bats. Traditional bat rolling methods have historically been less effective on alloy barrels, so we created a specialized process designed to improve break-in and overall bat performance.

This service uses a modified rolling process, controlled heating, rapid cooling, and additional proprietary techniques to help new alloy bats perform at a higher level. Many alloy barrel bats see average performance gains in the 10 to 20 foot range, which is often about 30% greater than what can typically be achieved with traditional heated bat rolling alone.

How Much Distance Can Barrel Optimization Add to USA Baseball Bats?

Based on our testing, many alloy USA baseball bats show distance gains of approximately 10 to 20 feet after our Barrel Optimization Service and roughly 20 to 30 feet after shaving.

For composite USA baseball bats, we have seen gains of approximately 20 to 25 feet after rolling and 30 or more feet when the bat is both rolled and shaved. Actual results may vary based on the bat model, barrel design, and overall condition.

While these are meaningful performance increases, newer bats may still not perform like some older high-performance models. However, they can perform noticeably better than a stock, unaltered bat.

Is Heated Bat Rolling or Barrel Optimization Legal?

Rules regarding heated bat rolling, barrel optimization, and other bat-altering services vary by league, tournament, and association. Before purchasing a service or using an altered bat in competition, we strongly recommend checking with your local league, sanctioning body, or event coordinator.

In many leagues, there are rules that restrict or prohibit bat altering. In other situations, such as some showcases or home run derbies, altered bats may be permitted. After the rolling process, we compression test bats to help confirm they remain at or below the maximum allowable performance level.

Players are responsible for making sure their bat complies with all league and event rules before use.
